Who is the union?
YOU and your library co-workers are the union. You are the strength of Local 1169. Every participating member of YOUR local has a voice in improving the work environment. Such as fair wages, benefits, a healthy and safe worksite, and fair treatment of all members.
What is the union?
The union is an organized group of workers who unite to improve conditions affecting their work environments through negotiations with the employer. Why do you pay union dues?
Your dues go towards operations, supporting members, negotiations, education and a portion going to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE National). CUPE National is the parent organization providing the locals with a national representative who can provide the local with legal advice, strike action and activism.
